Yukon Trail Snowmachine Expedition
Rock Didier

Rock was born in Lac St. Jean,
Quebec in 1959.

At the age of 18 Rock left for the Yukon to live his dream: live in the wilderness. He arrived in Dawson: a town originating in the Klondike Gold Rush in 1898 where he met his wife, Kathryn. That winter they spent in the woods together and the following year they started a family. They raised their children on the trap line, taught them school by correspondence and lived from hunting, fishing and trapping. During the summers Rock would work with the FNs building log homes. He is well respected by the Indian populations and knows everyone in the Yukon.
By the time the children were in their mid-teens the family moved to Whitehorse so they could adapt to civilization. His daughter has become a professional musher and his son works in the film industry. Rock and Kathryn returned to the woods after the kids were on their own.

In 2001 Rock worked on the movie, The Last Trapper, which was filmed in the Yukon. This is where he met Didier and they became fast friends. A few years later Didider was hired to break trail for Nicolas Vanier on a trip across Siberia so he asked Rock to join him for the four month crossing in the extreme conditons of a Russian winter.

Didier was born in 1958 in the huntsmans’ country
of La-Loire, France.

At the age of five he was on the edge of the river fishing and he followed his grandfathver hunting wheneer he was able to. He has had a life long passion for nature that continues to this day. After studying in commerce he started a business in the sales and restoration of ancient tapestries. He started a shop in restoration and worked with some of the most famous specalists in the world.

In 1995 he met Nicolas Vanier who recognized his abilities to live and travel in the wilderness and asked him to accompany him on the ‘White Odyssey’ during the winter of 1998. This expedition was a four month crossing of the Canadian North from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. Thereafter, Didier participated in the nine month filming of ‘The Last Trapper’ as a guide who was responsible for the logistics and security of equipment.

Rock and Didier work well together in difficult conditions on wilderness trails. From their love of the wilderness, their great wealth of practical experience and their ability to travel well together in extreme conditions was born the idea of the expeditions proposed in this package.
